Luminar 2018

No subscriptions. You can buy it at $69! Available on both Mac and PC! Mac users especially will immediately be familiar with the app design. It feels like an Apple-designed application in its simplicity. Luminar’s powerful, customizable approach to image editing is great for photographers who tend to feel intimidated by the hundreds of buttons, menu options, and sliders available in other post-processing programs. Luminar 2018 is so familiar that it's enough for photographers who have used other editing platforms, including Adobe Lightroom, to make an easy transition. One of the most appriciated aspects of Luminar 2018 is that it’s capable of editing almost any RAW file of any sort.

Luminar 2018 has one of the most innovative and useful tools of the post processing high end programs. This feature is available in other programs but Luminar has kicked it up a notch. A Before/After feature that allows you to move the preview slider back and forth. Unlike others that just give you a side by side viewing of your processing. Fortunately, you can install it as a plug-in for Lightroom, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and even Aperture. You have the ability to access Photoshop and other third party filters while you’re within the app! One of the reasons this is great is because we all have different workflows. It’s nice to have a tool that has options!

Affinity Photo

The amount of features it provides, corresponds to the price. Starting at $54.99! One purchase, no subscription! This software allows for raw editing, multi-layered compositions, 360 image editing, batch processing and so much more. This photo editor grants you the choice of being able to upload and edit Photoshop files. Affinity has an unlimited amount of recorded actions, permitting you to save and replay as you please. Basically making previously burdensome tasks possible in just a few clicks.

Affinity Photo comes with a huge range of high-end, fully customisable filters including lighting, blurs, distortions, tilt-shift, shadows and glows. But what really sets it apart is when you adjust the properties of a filter you always see a full resolution preview of the result, in real-time. One of the best features about Affinity is that it comes in the form of layers. You can create mask layers, rearrange layers and choose between vector or raster layers.

The biggest downside, though, to this photo editor is the lack of an organizing system. You can browse through image files on your computer, but there isn't an advanced image search function or a ranking system, which means you'll spend more time trying to track down a specific image with this software than other photo editing applications. Unfortunately, Affinity Photo does not come with the ability to save photos to online galleries, nor can you upload images directly to social media or email.
