Meero is happy to announce that Desperate Dreamer and Nothing Special, its two portrait documentaries on Kourtney Roy and Joakim Eskildsen, are part of Los Angeles Lift Off Festival’s selection. Directed by Martin Zarka, the films are competing in the New Voices Shorts 2 and Trendsetters Shorts 4 categories.

In each portrait film, director Martin Zarka re-invents a cinematographic narrative and a singular visual universe, inspired by the photographer and her/his artistic and creative approach. The two films will be showcased on Los Angeles Lift Off Festival’s platform until October 13, get your tickets here!

Desperate Dreamer takes us to Cancun, Mexico, where Canadian photographer Kourtney Roy, known for her eccentricity, creates dreamy sets for her self portraits. Wearing vintage clothing, retro wigs, multi-colored makeup and high heels, Kourtney World laughs at the world and treats it like a movie set where reality and fiction are intertwined. This documentary is an immersive dive into the imagination of the photographer and invites us to follow her last photographic series shot in Cancun, Mexico. Watch the film here.

The second episode presents documentary photographer Joakim Eskildsen and his struggle to pass on his cultural heritage and values to the younger generation. In this portrait, the appearance of the no less famous photo director of the New York Time magazine Kathy Ryan enlightens us on the particular sensibility of this photographer. Watch the film here.
