Bringing Pokémon to Life With 3D

“In a vortex of complete chaos and nothingness, a single Egg comes into being, which then hatches into Arceus, the first Pokémon in existence. Arceus then creates Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, giving them power over time, space, and antimatter respectively.“

The first Pokémon games came out on the Nintendo Game Boy system in Japan on February 27, 1996, by Satoshi Tajiri. It allowed people of all ages to catch, train and trade 151 creatures and become a Pokémon Master. 22 years later now, in 2018, we ask ourselves...what is the future for Pokémon?

Pokemon comes to life!

Admirer of 3D and Pokémon, Toulouse artist, Mickael Lelievre, combined the two, to transform these famous creatures into imaginary, ultra-realistic animals. Showing us the unimaginable…..what a real life Pokémon would look like!

However, this isn’t the first time Pokémon has inspired an artist, there have been inspiring artists from all over the world for decades. Yet, no one has gone as far as to re-imagine these creatures into 3D subjects. Seeing that Lelievre works full time for TAT Productions, a production company specialized in animation and CGI, he had the previous experience and knowledge fit for this project. Lelievre spent countless hours researching terrestrial creatures to analyze their behavior and attitudes in order to replicate the Pokémon as realistically as possible. Mickael said he found that he was most inspired by meerkats in order to conceptualize a “standing” Charmander. Also, using a mix between a frog and a salamander to fabricate Bulbasaur. These amazing designs are bound to transform the vision of everyone who has known Pokémon throughout their childhood.
