Meeting Meero with Lisa Scarpa

10 Oct 2019 by Monica Linzmeier

Three years ago Meero was a small startup with big aspirations to empower creatives around the world. Now, Meero is the largest photography company in the world that continues to better the lives of photographers in more than 100 countries by providing them with guidance, educational material, a platform to communicate with each other and connecting them with top global brands. We are giving creatives the necessary tools and providing them with time-saving technology to ease their lives and let them focus more on what they love. You might wonder who is behind all this? Well, here’s your chance to meet the team and get to know the people that are committed to improving the world of photographers. Meet Lisa:

I have heard that you might be able to give us a different perspective as you haven’t always done the same thing here at Meero. Can you tell us about your time here?

I actually started 1 year and 8 months ago with a six-month internship working on Content and SEO in the Marketing team (Editor’s Note: you may have seen her articles here, here, or here). I also took care of Meero’s Instagram, social media, and after six months they offered me a job…except that at the time, content was an internship - only title.  So they asked me:

“Well, what do you want to do? We think you’d be good in sales, why don’t you try it out for a week?”

In the end, I really loved my week in sales. I was offered a contract as a junior key account manager. Not going to lie, it wasn’t easy. I let myself open up to be ready to learn anything that came my way.   After 9 months, with our hypergrowth, our teams began to triple in size and they offered me a team lead position. So within a year and a half, I went from intern to Junior Key Account Manager to a team leader and I now have five people under me.

That’s a great evolution story! So is that why you like Meero?

I don’t like Meero, I love Meero. The motivation and enthusiasm within the company, in order to fulfill its vision, is what gets to me most.

Knowing that Meero’s vision was to bring together the creative world and to alleviate the burdens of the life of a freelance photographer, I knew this was the company for me. Not to mention, my dad is a photographer... and well it’s a lonely job... you’re always on your own. Like a lot of the photographers we often work with and/or professional photographers shooting for Vogue, they are often self-taught. Managing all aspects of the business on their own. Meero wants to reduce the business aspect for them and influence their creativity.  Not only is our mission to help large companies sell more with beautiful content but to continue bringing together creatives from all over the world. As a Key Account Manager, the pleasure of selling such a service is that you get to help your client emerge from the clutter of the content world by helping them scale worldwide, fast.

Today, in verticals like Food delivery and Real Estate, it’s an extremely strategic and competitive world and Meero is here to help advise, consult, and strategize with the client to help take off all the operational burdens behind content off their shoulders.

What do you like about working here?

The culture. The Meero Family. Even as we grow and add more structure to each team, it still remains so open-minded. We have the capacity and team structure of a large company but the mindset and “rigorosity” of a start-up. It creates quite the dynamic. Young, motivated, and talented. We like to go fast and break things.

Meero, it has given me so many things: friendships, work experience, challenges. It has challenged me and helped me grow in so many ways… before we raised our last Series C of $230M,  we were working days on end, sleeping at the office, pushing and pulling all departments, but we were laughing along the way. We were happy to be in it together and motivated to help grow such an insane company. Everyone is pleased to be at work. On Sundays, I look forward to going into work on Monday...

Can you explain what you do at Meero in three words?

And of course, Negotiate

What do you usually have on your desk?

On my desk, I have inspirational stickers all around my computer. Sales stuff, you know? And of course, a basket of contracts!

What was your best idea ever?

Joining Meero!

Last question. What does your day to day at Meero look like?

My daily routine consists of leading my team in all aspects in order to achieve their objectives. Practicing our sales methodology, negotiation strategy, removing any internal barriers that could prolong the sales cycle and of course creating relationships with our clients.   Along with the management of my team, I remain on my accounts as well, so I’m constantly running around and my days are often full to the brim. But we keep a really fun, dynamic and motivated mindset in the Northern Europe Team, all thanks to the best team at Meero!
